Lexus’ The Darker Side of Green
“Whoa, good turnout for a freakin’ car party,” tweeted Derek Blasberg, author and Editor-at-Large for Style.com. “Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kyra Sedgwick, all The Daily Show boys, my pal Kevin Bacon. I want a Lexus.”
That was pretty much the tone of the night for the Darker Side of Green, a global warming debate to mark the launch of the all-new Lexus CT 200h compact premium hybrid.
The night started off fairly subtly – “Let’s start this motherf#cker,” proclaimed Sarah Silverman, moderator of the debate between journalist and global warming skeptic Phelim McAleer, and author and renewable energy advocate Amanda Little.
At 7:30pm there was a line around the block for the much anticipated green issues exchange. Sarah Silverman was her brilliant self, acting as part moderator part debater – teaming up at times with Little against the well prepared McAleer.
When asked why she agreed to be involved in the event, Silverman replied, “I like the idea that a big schmancy company like Lexus is willing to engage in an unpredictable debate.”
“Lexus hybrid vehicles have been designed to appeal to both the eco-minded and those unwilling to compromise on luxury and style,” said David Nordstrom, Lexus vice president of marketing. “We thought The Darker Side of Green debate was an intriguing way to express this multi-faceted appeal of the new CT 200h.”
Attendees included Bronques of Last Night’s Party, Zach Braff, Heatherette’s Richie Rich, Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rev Run, Tyson Beckford, Leigh Lezark and the rest of the Misshapes crew, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Eric Mabius, DJ Paul Sevigny, Emmy Rossum, Norman Reedus, and even climatologist Gavin Schmidt.
