Wine, Cheese, & Jazz…

Summertime in Hollywood brings lots of fun things to do… The Hollywood & Highland Center on Tuesdays from 7-9pm in the courtyard is one of them.

I packed up the Bugaboo and headed out for a nice walk to Hollywood & Highland. Once there, you have the choice of sitting at a table outside of one of the many overlooking restaurants (given you’re going to eat), sitting in the courtyard seating area where chairs are set up in rows, or sitting on the outskirts of the courtyard on one of the many benches.

We choose the latter then starting plotting our next move, what to eat… “Let’s see, wine & cheese, French dip or sushi, or all of the above?” You guessed it…all of the above! When we first arrived we learned you could get two glasses of wine (mind you small glasses but nonetheless two glasses) and a box of cheese, crackers, and fruit for $10. Yes, I said $10… and proceeds go to Project Angel Food. However, cheese and crackers were not going to cut it because we were a hungry bunch. All the outside tables at the restaurants were taken so what were we going to do? Go home? Nope. Many of the restaurants had booths set up in the courtyard where you could place an order and they bring it to where you are seated in the courtyard. Nice huh?

My mom, Poet, and I decided on sushi while Patrick settled on his favorite, a French dip. While our decisions on where to sit and what to eat were taking place there was amazing Jazz music playing the background by the Theo Saunders Sextet. The H&H has a pretty impressive list of jazz legends on their schedule. We ran into Bobby Matos, famed LA Timbale player (pictured above) and an old friend of my husband’s. He played a few weeks back but you can still catch Francisco Aguabella on Tuesday August 11th and Poncho Sanchez on the finale night Tuesday August 25th, both famed congeros.

This is definitely a low maintenance (I wore Havaianas flip flops), spur of the moment (“Hey, let’s walk to Hollywood & Highland and listen to music!”), Tuesday night treat for those of you that enjoy listening to live music and sitting outside on a warm summer evening… And one last thing, it’s free to get in.
