My “O” my…what a wonderful day.
I had been waiting for this day for quite some time… Why you ask? Las Vegas baby! I can’t tell you how much I LOVE Las Vegas. But I love Vegas for different reasons than most… I don’t go for the debauchery and all night partying; instead I go for dinners and the shows. That’s a true fatty and dork for you folks. My cousins Eddie and Susana were celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary and invited us to share in their celebration. How could we say no?
On our first night we had plans to have dinner at Bellagio’s Circo and then see Cirque du Soleil’s “aquatic tapestry of artistry, surrealism and theatrical romance,” otherwise known as “O”. I had seen “O” once before but it was many, many, moons ago. In fact, I’m going to put it at “size 2” moons ago just to put it in perspective for you. One of the main reasons I love going to dinner and a show is because…drum roll please…I get to dress up!! Woo hoo!!! I hate it when I go to see a show and people are there in flip-flops! This isn’t the beach people so please let’s put some effort in.
I got to wear one of my favorite party dresses, which has horizontal layers of silk in pink, fuchsia, orange, and dusty pink with a crinoline under the skirt. Yes, a crinoline. I was raised in big, giant, proofy dresses and haven’t quite outgrown it. Seriously, my first communion dress was literally a wedding dress with the fullest skirt you could possibly imagine. Since then I’ve tapered down the poofiness of my dresses, not because I want too, but only to not be ridiculed by my friends. I paired my fabulous poofy party dress with silver Jimmy Choo gladiators and a blush cover up (because let’s face it, my arms aren’t exactly toned and you can’t pair a beautiful dress like that with linebacker arms) with beading around it.
Dinner at Circo was, as it always is, wonderful. We sat at a table in the main dining room overlooking the water show, enjoyed scrumptious food, and lively conversation. “O” was just as amazing as I remember it to be. It definitely held up to the test of time (unlike my arms). They perform stunts in the show that are absolutely mind-blowing and visually the show is nothing short of Elysium. All in all it turned out to be a wonderful day…
